Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today applauding the Department of Transportation awarding $85 million in transit funding for San Francisco's Central Subway. Funds were included for New Starts transit capital expansion funding in the fiscal year 2012 Transportation Appropriations bill, and could only be awarded following the signing of the Full Funding Grant which occurred on October 11th.
"Today, San Franciscans sick of suffering the overcrowded 30-Stockton have something to celebrate. Thanks to the signing of the recent Full Funding Grant Agreement, we can applaud $85 million in funding for the Central Subway – creating jobs, expanding public transit and bringing our city closer together.
"With the support of the community, local leaders like Mayor Ed Lee and Gavin Newsom before him, and federal leaders like Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, our city is well on track for 21st century infrastructure system."
