Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement to mark the fourth anniversary of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, legislation that helps America’s service members, veterans, and military families pursue educational opportunities and succeed in our economy:

“Four years ago, the Post-9/11 GI Bill took effect, restoring the promise of a full, four-year college education for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families. Americans must always serve our men and women in uniform as well they have served us, and this bill is among our key, historic accomplishments for our veterans.  Today, this law is honoring their courage and their sacrifice with an investment in their future.

“As the most comprehensive educational assistance initiative in nearly seven decades, the Post-9/11 GI Bill has helped nearly one million military members and their families transform their lives through expanded educational opportunities.  Through tuition support, licensing support, or technical training, these brave men and women are continuing to contribute to our country’s strength by become an integral part of our 21st century workforce.  Their hard work and commitment will ensure that America remains both a global military and economic leader for years to come.

“As Members of Congress, we can never fully repay the debt we owe to those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.  But we will always work to make sure they receive every right, every privilege, and every opportunity they’ve earned.  On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind.  As a nation, let us reaffirm our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.”
