San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today to mark 100 days since the Senate passed its budget resolution:
“For 100 days, the American people have been waiting for House Republicans to finalize a sensible budget that replaces the devastating sequester cuts, creates jobs, strengthens the middle class, and responsibly reduces the deficit. For 100 days, Republicans have failed to live up to that responsibility.
"As soon as the Senate passed its budget resolution, House Republicans should have welcomed the opportunity to appoint budget conferees so Congress could begin negotiating a comprehensive budget agreement. Instead, they’ve let businesses, seniors, children, and families languish under sequester cuts; they’ve wasted time on extreme and empty bills that do not reflect our country’s priorities; they’ve refused to offer a single jobs bill.
“Hard-working Americans cannot wait another 100 days for House Republicans to do their job. House Democrats have named budget conferees and are ready to work together to reach an agreement. It is time for Speaker Boehner to trade in Republican obstruction for an open negotiating process so we can deliver a budget that promotes economic growth, invests in innovation and infrastructure, and reflects the values of the American people.”
