Pelosi Statement on GOP’s 40th Vote to Repeal Patient Protections

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after House Republican leaders announced that the floor schedule for next week would include the 40th vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, while refusing to bring any jobs bills up for consideration:

“It is only fitting that Republicans would waste the last week at work this summer voting for the 40th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act and continue their record of no jobs bills, no budget agreement, and no solutions for the middle class.  This 40th vote is a vote to take away affordable health care coverage and raise taxes for millions of Americans.  This is the reach and the meaning of the Republicans’ repeal-only agenda, and the American people deserve better.  Certainly, we can all agree – 40 votes are more than enough.

“Republicans have little to show for their efforts as they prepare to head home for the month of August.  Their record is defined more by what they have failed to do than what they have achieved – with no jobs bills, no budget agreement, and no solutions for the middle class.

“While dysfunction and delay may make for good sound bites with the conservative base, they do not make for sound policy for our families and businesses.  It’s time to get to work on Americans’ top priorities and act to create jobs, grow the economy, and strengthen the middle class.”
