Pelosi Statement on Newly Extended Deadline for January 1 Coverage

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on today’s announcement that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be extending the date that consumers can enroll in a health plan to receive coverage beginning January 1 by eight days, from December 15 to December 23:

“This extension provides extra time and extra confidence to Americans looking to enroll in quality, affordable coverage for themselves and their families.  It is great news for those who need uninterrupted coverage with a new plan, and those enrolling in health coverage for the first time – giving individuals and families more time to review plan options and enroll in the one that’s right for them as the website continues to improve.

“Millions and millions of Americans are already benefiting from the protections and benefits of the Affordable Care Act. And millions more stand to benefit from the quality, affordable care that starts as soon as January 1.  This common-sense, consumer-oriented change will help more Americans secure coverage for themselves and their families that starts working as soon as possible.”
