Pelosi Statement on President Obama’s Remarks on the Affordable Care Act

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after President Obama’s speech in Maryland on the patient protections in the Affordable Care Act:

“Today, President Obama cut through the Beltway bubble to explain exactly what millions of Americans will see when Health Insurance Marketplaces open across the country on Tuesday: quality, affordable, health care.  In just six days, Americans of all ages and every walk of life will finally get access to the coverage that fits their needs and their pocketbooks.

“The landmark health care law was designed to ensure that people could find affordable plans from many of the companies they know without sacrificing the quality of their care.  As a new report recently reaffirmed, health insurance premiums nationwide will be much lower than expected for 95 percent of Americans, putting much-needed coverage well-within reach of middle class families.  From free preventive services to lower premiums, the Affordable Care Act is creating competition, improving care, and making affordable care a reality for those who need it most.

“As we approach open enrollment season, we cannot allow partisan misrepresentations to distract from the fact that the Affordable Care Act is transforming millions of lives for the better.  It’s time for Republicans and Democrats to work with local businesses and families to make the law’s implementation a success.  Through our efforts, Americans will continue to benefit from patient protections, expanded choices, and the affordable care that they deserve.”
