Pelosi Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy

Washington, DC—Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy:

“A year ago, Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on communities up and down the East Coast.  We saw homes destroyed, businesses leveled, and lives lost.  Today, we hold the memory of those 117 Americans in our hearts, and offer our thoughts and prayers to the loved ones they left behind.

“We saw great destruction.  But we also saw the courage of first responders and the resolve and compassion of the American people.  We saw Americans coming together to do whatever was needed to get their communities up and running again.

“Hurricane Sandy reminds us that when disaster strikes, Congress has a responsibility to help the victims pick up the pieces.  In the weeks ahead, House Democrats will work to find budget solutions that invest in infrastructure to weather the next storm.  American families deserve to know that their government will be there for them, without question and without hesitation.  As communities rebuild and the scars of Sandy’s devastation fade, we must not forget our responsibility to the victims of the storm.”
