Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that the freshmen class elected Congressman-Elect Dan Kildee of Michigan to serve as their representative to the Steering and Policy Committee of the House Democratic Caucus. Earlier this week, Leader Pelosi broke from tradition and announced she would grant direct election of the freshmen representative to the committee.
“The freshmen of the 113th Congress will have a strong voice on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in Congressman-Elect Kildee,” Leader Pelosi said. “Our newly-elected Members selected a proven leader committed to middle class priorities: his constituents, the House Democratic Caucus, and the Congress will be well-served by his guidance.”
“The House Democratic Caucus, like Michigan's 5th Congressional District, reflects the great diversity of our country," Congressman-Elect Kildee said. "I'm honored to represent my fellow freshmen in what is the first caucus in history to have a majority of our Members be women and minorities, and I'm grateful to Leader Pelosi for allowing the new Members to directly elect our representative."
The Steering Committee includes members of the elected leadership, Ranking Members of the exclusive committees and representatives appointed by the leadership and selected from each region of the country.
