Pelosi: Recovery Act is Only the Beginning of Efforts to Transform Economy and Create New Jobs

Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the 100th day since President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law.

“With unprecedented speed, Congress and President Obama worked together to enact the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which is already creating and saving jobs, cutting taxes for working families, and making essential investments in technology and infrastructure to build the foundation of our economic recovery.

“The Recovery Act has already created or saved more than 150,000 jobs, provided 95 percent of American working families with the Making Work Pay tax credit, and provided economic recovery payments to 54 million seniors.  We are making these new investments with unprecedented accountability and transparency.

“The Recovery Act is only the beginning of Congress's and the President's efforts to transform our economy and create new jobs, but it is a strong start.  We look forward to continuing to work with President Obama as we build on the progress of the Recovery Act, tackle health care reform and clean energy legislation, and ensure prosperity for years to come.”
