Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after House Democrats supported an amendment that struck language from the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Act that would have prohibited the use of funds for construction bid solicitations that require or prohibit project labor agreements (PLAs). Democrats also defeated a Republican amendment in the bill that prohibited the use of funds to enforce the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act:
'Tonight, House Democrats stood strong against Republican efforts to undermine the economic security of American workers. Project Labor Agreements are an enormously successful way of strengthening our economy and middle-class families while investing in building America.
'Though these voluntary agreements have earned bipartisan support for years, Republicans have made attacking it part of their anti-worker agenda. Democrats will always stand up for fair wages, safe workplaces, and good jobs.'
