Trump’s First 200 Days: Trump Administration vs. Reality


Today marks 200 days of the Trump presidency.  Here’s a look back at this Fiction vs. Reality Administration:

This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration – period – both in person and around the globe.” – Former WH Press Secretary Sean Spicer, January 21

Reality: “The turnout represented in the [National Park Service] photos for Trump’s inauguration was smaller than that of his predecessor.” – CNN

I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and…even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time).” – President Trump, January 25

Reality: “Claims of election ‘rigging’ and fraudulent voting have been debunked in study after study.” – Brennan Center for Justice

Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” – President Trump, March 4

Reality: “No evidence of any kind that the now president of the United States was surveilled at any time in any way.” – Fox News

The [tax cut] plan will pay for itself with growth.” – Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, April 20

Reality: “Trump’s tax cut plan only pays for itself with growth in ‘fairyland.’” – CNBC

Eventually, but at a later date so we can get started early, Mexico will be paying, in some form, for the badly needed border wall.” – President Trump, April 23

Reality: “Mexico has repeatedly said it will not pay for a new border barrier, and Trump’s words set off a furious reaction in Mexico City.” – LA Times

Reality: “So, what has Trump accomplished with Congress so far? Nothing that political scientists would categorize as major pieces of legislation.” – NPR

James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” – President Trump, May 12

Reality: “President Trump cleared up one of the capital’s least suspenseful mysteries on Thursday, acknowledging that he did not record conversations with James B. Comey.” – New York Times

Reality: “From the Congressional Budget Office to the International Monetary Fund to the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, no one is forecasting U.S. economic growth approaching the Trump administration’s core assumption.” – CNBC

You’re 21 years old, you start working and you’re paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you’re 70, you get a nice plan.” – President Trump, July 19

Reality: “Anyone who has purchased health coverage, let alone studied the health insurance market, knows that a $12 annual premium is nonexistent — and that premiums are typically paid in months rather than years.” – Vox

The United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.” – President Trump, July 26

Reality: “Mr. Trump is essentially reinstating a shameful policy of silence and discrimination.” – Washington Post

This would be the most significant reform to the immigration system in half a century.” – President Trump, August 2

Reality: “The bill, which would do nothing to solve the country’s immigration and economic challenges, is unlikely to become law.” – New York Times

While the Trump Administration’s attempts to mislead the public continue, the American people are waiting for President Trump to keep his promises and actually pass significant legislation to improve the lives of hard-working families across the country.
