Pelosi Remarks at Early Education Building Blocks Press Event
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks today at a press event to promote high-quality early education hosted by MomsRising and the National Women’s Law Center. Below is a transcript of the Leader’s remarks:
“Thank you all. I know you’ve had a very eventful and productive morning here. My apologies for being late, but business – we have an important vote on the floor today. But what’s important is how we invest in our future, which we see right before us here.
“I’m very glad that, this week, we passed the bipartisan Child Care and Development Block Grant. It will go to the Senate. That’s important. But we have more to do. We must make sure it is funded, that we have the funding to match the authorization.
“But we all know that the most important initiative we can take to invest in America, to keep America number one, is to invest in our children. We all also know that when women succeed, America succeeds. And for women to succeed, we need to have affordable, quality child care for our children.
“It’s for our men and for our women. So I want to thank Secretary Duncan, who honored all of us with his presence earlier; Kristin Row-Finkbeiner from MomsRising – thank you so much to MomsRising for what they are doing; and to Helen Blank, Director of Child Care and Early Learning from the National Women’s Law Center; but all of you: because each of you is a voice. These ‘super-women’ symbols – and that is an accurate symbol of the power of MomsRising, of the investment we have to make.
“So now I just want to get on the ground and play with the kids. I thank you for what you are doing. I pledge our support to you. I know that nothing good happens here without the outside mobilization. Our inside maneuvering can only succeed with your outside advocacy.
“So thank you for making such a tremendous difference for our country by investing in America’s future – our children. Aren’t they adorable on top of it all? Thank you all very much.”
