Pelosi Statement on Consolidated Natural Resources Act
Washington, D.C.– Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on S. 2739, the Consolidated Natural Resources Act, which passed the House of Representatives this evening by a vote of 291 to 117, sending the bill to the President for his signature:
“Today is a banner day for America’s natural, cultural and historic treasures. The legislation passed today signals the commitment of the New Direction Congress to protect our natural resources, including wilderness, national parks, national heritage areas, and water resources. The bill reaches across party lines, containing more than 60 individual bills introduced by Democrats, Republicans, and bipartisan coalitions.
“This legislation includes the Wild Sky Wilderness initiative, many years in the making, which will provide the highest level of protection to magnificent old growth forests in Washington State. It also includes the Cesar Chavez Park Study Act, honoring Chavez’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and the environment, and initiating the process for including lands important to his life and work in the National Park system.”
