Pelosi Statement on the Retirement of Congressman John Olver

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman John Olver announced he would not seek re-election in 2012:

“For two decades, Congressman John Olver has served the first district of Massachusetts with dignity, honor, commitment, and compassion.

“On the Appropriations Committee, Congressman Olver made it his central task to invest in jobs, economic opportunity, and sustainable development in western and central Massachusetts and across the nation, particularly recognizing that investments in transportation, infrastructure and urban areas benefit all Americans.  He used his position to advance the common good – to expand access to health insurance, protect the environment, defend workers’ rights, and improve our schools.

“Congressman Olver made his mark in Congress by always putting his constituents first – by dedicating his career to serving his neighbors and representing the interests of local businesses and families.  In so ably serving his home state, he strengthened the Congress and the country.  We wish him and his family well in the future.”
