Top Republican on the Minimum Wage: 'I Think We Ought to Raise it'
Joining a mounting chorus of Republicans calling for a raise in the minimum wage, this morning former two-time presidential Republican candidate Mitt Romney urged his colleagues to increase the minimum wage.
“I…part company with many of the conservatives in my party on the issue of the minimum wage. I think we ought to raise it.” – Mitt Romney [5/9]
The American public knows that raising the minimum wage to $10.10 would:
- Increase wages for at least 25 million working men and women;
- Lift up to 4.5 million Americans out of poverty;
- Put more money in the pockets of consumers, and generate $22 billion in new economic activity.
Speaker Boehner, the time to increase the minimum wage and bring H.R. 1010 for a vote on the House floor is now.
