“Today, the Bush Administration should be commended for taking a critical first step in implementing the first legislated increase in CAFE standards in 32 years, as enacted in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.”

“I respectfully ask you again to work with the Congress to allow the Justice Department to pursue oil cartel price-fixing, allow the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) the authority to investigate and punish price gougers, end taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil and invest those funds in renewable American energy. Lastly, your Administration must use the authority given to it by the Congress to end market manipulation. We cannot wait to act in the face of these prices increases.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi today issued the following statement after the State Foreclosure Prevention Working Group, comprised of a group of state attorneys general and state banking regulators, issued a report confirming the need for stronger action to help millions of American families avoid foreclosure.

“The multigenerational group called for greater outreach to returning soldiers and more rural outpatient clinics. ‘We have to do better,’ Pelosi said.”
