Good afternoon. Last evening, we returned from a trip to visit our troops. As Speaker and as leader, my first trip every year is to visit our men and women in uniform to thank them for their courage, their patriotism, the sacrifices that they and their families are making for our country.

“In a time that demands bold ideas, this forum brings together some of the most innovative and visionary thinkers in our nation. I come here to thank you for your efforts to tackle the greatest challenges of our time.”

“There is nobody Republicans blame more for their woes than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It is Pelosi who loaded the stimulus bill with pork. It is Pelosi who shuts Republicans out of the legislative process, ramrods her liberal ideology through the House and imposes San Francisco values on the nation.”

“I’m in the arena. I love it,” she said on “Hardball.” “You know, if I were not effective, they would not be coming after me.”

“For the past two days, I have led an eight Member House delegation to Afghanistan to visit U.S. troops. The first overseas trip I take as Speaker in each new session of Congress is to thank our brave men and women for their service, sacrifice, and patriotism.”

‘We are grateful for the sacrifice and service of our brave men and women in Afghanistan, and for their commitment to America’s security and their unwavering dedication to the mission,’ Pelosi said.

‘Today, the delegation was briefed on military and training activities critical to America’s security and on the close cooperation with our allies on meeting the challenges ahead. But the main purpose of our visit was to pay our respects to our men and women in uniform and to thank them and their families for their service and sacrifice to our nation. We delivered a message that we will meet their needs when they are in service and when they are out. That is our first responsibility,’ Pelosi said.

“As our nation continues to confront severe budget deficits as a result of unsound economic policy and lax regulation over the last eight years, it is essential that, as we advance our priorities, House Committees also conduct rigorous oversight of all aspects of federal spending and government operations to help achieve deficit reduction and long term fiscal responsibility.”

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) put pledge to paper on Thursday by sending her committee chairmen a letter asking them to ‘conduct rigorous oversight of all aspects of federal spending’ in order to reduce an escalating budget deficit.”
