Pelosi Statement on House Passage of Dangerous GOP Anti-Immigrant Bills
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Republican anti-immigrant bills passed by the House today:
“The murder of Kathryn Steinle is a great tragedy. But the reality is that the wantonly anti-immigrant bills Republicans passed today will only make it harder for local law enforcement to fight crime and keep our communities safe.
“Who is safer when immigrant families fear going to the police when they are witnesses or victims of crimes? Once again, the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress have put their cruel agenda of discrimination ahead of safer communities. Republicans’ effort to withhold vital public safety funds to bully communities into rounding up immigrants is immoral, unconstitutional and dangerous.
“States and communities must have the right to choose humane and effective law enforcement strategies that protect and serve, not deport and intimidate. While Republicans fan the flames of hate and bigotry, Democrats will continue to fight for the comprehensive immigration reform our nation needs.”

Pelosi Floor Speech on 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Transfer of Sovereignty to China
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. In 1984, before the United Kingdom handed over Hong Kong to China, the Chinese government promised ‘a high degree of autonomy’ for the territory in the Joint Declaration on the Question of Hong Kong: providing for independent executive, legislature and judiciary; ensuring the freedom of speech, press, assembly and religion; prohibiting the central government from interfering in the affairs that Hong Kong administers on its own according to the Basic Law; and pledging a path to universal suffrage.
Senate GOP Opioid Funding is Just ‘Like Spitting in the Ocean’
Senate Republicans are supposedly proposing a number of changes to their mean and heartless Trumpcare bill prior to the July 4th recess, including at least $45 billion for opioid addiction treatment. Funding for opioids sounds great right? Yeah, not so much in this case.

Dear Colleague on Continuing Unified Momentum to Stop Trumpcare Over July 4th Recess
Dear Democratic Colleague,
Leader Mitch McConnell’s postponing the vote on Trumpcare is a setback for the Republicans and their destructive bill. Again, behind closed doors, they are preparing a new version. And just as Republicans did in the House, there is fear Senate Republicans will make their bad bill worse.

Intraparty Fighting Puts GOP Dysfunction on Full Display
Six months into the Trump Administration, here’s what we know about the Republican legislative agenda: There hasn’t been a single bill to create good-paying jobs or improve the lives of hard-working Americans. In fact, a House, a Senate and a White House all controlled by Republicans head into the July 4th holiday without a single, major legislative accomplishment.
Pelosi Remarks at Press Conference on Senate Postponing Vote on Trumpcare
Good afternoon everyone. Well the American people have spoken; hopefully the Republicans in the Senate and the House will continue to listen.
