Pelosi Statement on California’s New Minimum Wage Law

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 10 into law, raising the state’s minimum wage from $8.00 to $10.00 per hour:

“When California leads, America takes notice – and with Governor Brown’s signature today, our state is paving the path toward progress for workers, families, and the middle class once more.

“This new law puts Californians ahead of the curve; now, it’s time for Congress to follow suit.  We must pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act to raise the incomes of hardworking Americans, strengthen our families’ economic security, bolster businesses, and expand our economy.  We must ensure that all workers know the stability, certainty, and dignity of a living wage.

“In California, we know that higher pay for workers is good for businesses, good for jobs, and good for our economic growth.  As a nation, we must honor the industry, dedication, and productivity of our working families by coming together, across party lines, to increase the minimum wage and offer a greater sense of security to millions of Americans.”
