San Francisco – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the 35th anniversary of the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk:
“Thirty five years ago today, we lost two of the great pioneers of equality and inclusiveness in our nation’s history: George Moscone and Harvey Milk.
“These courageous men dedicated their lives to fighting inequality and discrimination. They won groundbreaking victories for the LGBT community, victories that helped transform both San Francisco and the nation as a whole. They were tireless voices for fairness, justice, and the dignity owed every one of us.
“Moscone and Milk were taken from us far too soon, but the inspiration of their leadership will never dim. Today, as we mark the 35th anniversary of their deaths, let us celebrate their lives, draw strength from their examples, and continue to advance the banner of equality for all.”
