San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the report of the President’s Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies on U.S. government surveillance programs:
“Congress will carefully review the findings and recommendations of the President’s Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technologies in the coming weeks as part of our ongoing efforts to protect the security of our country and respect the rights of our people.
“Subsequent to this report, we look forward to receiving and evaluating the conclusions of the independent Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, which will be made available to Congress, the President, and the public early in the New Year. The Board’s reports are expected to incorporate findings related to the operations of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and National Security Agency collection activities authorized under the Patriot Act and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
“Congress will give thoughtful consideration to the recommendations offered by these panels as we consider legislation to address the serious concerns related to intelligence collection activities. We pledge to work with the Administration to enact measures that preserve Americans’ privacy and civil liberties while ensuring our national security.”
