The following article by Emily Heil appeared in the Washington Post highlighting a women’s history month reception Leader Pelosi held honoring the leadership and service of Janet Yellen, the first woman to lead the Federal Reserve.

The following article appeared in the Rutgers Daily Targum covering Leader Pelosi’s visit to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Participating in a moderated conversation at the Center, Leader Pelosi discussed the many struggles and many successes women have experienced in the fight for equality in the United States.

“Last July, Pelosi and House Democrats unveiled their women’s advocacy plan for pay equity and increased wages, paid family and sick leave as well as affordable access to child care. The engagements have been an opportunity for Democrats to connect with female voters across the country and drum up support for the midterm elections.”

“What’s really important is we have to fight for all of this in that tradition,” Pelosi said.

“When they put their name down on this discharge petition, it will be a signature of hope to all the people out there who are looking to this Congress to do the right thing,” Pelosi said. “Do the right thing, Mr. Speaker. Give us a vote.”

“Women were starved, women were relentless, women fought and women worked to get the right to vote in our country. A few decades later, women joined the workforce and were out of the home. Then higher education of women, women having a choice, women in profession. In all of that, what’s missing? Childcare.” Pelosi said.

“The Government by the People Act would help build a politics and a government that answer to the people. Together, we can reassert the full promise of our ideals and restore confidence in our democracy.”

House Minority Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) introduced the bill, saying it would honor the founders of the United States who hoped to create, “a government of the many, not a government of the money.”

“On Fred Korematsu Day, the people of California remember and honor a man persecuted for his race and imprisoned for his heritage – yet persistent in pursuit of equality for Japanese Americans and in defense of the civil liberties of all Americans.”

“Forty years ago, the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade established fundamental principles in American life and society: that reproductive freedom must be protected; that the right to privacy must be preserved; and that a woman’s health decisions must be her own, in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith.”
