Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Democratic Members of the United States House and Senate to call for action on the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution led by Rep. Mike Doyle and Sen. Ed Markey to reinstate Net Neutrality after the FCC’s decision to dismantle the open internet. Below are the Leader’s remarks:

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after House Democrats filed a discharge petition to demand a vote on the bipartisan Thompson-King bill to strengthen background checks, closing the dangerous loopholes that allow gun sales without background checks over the internet and at gun shows:

“America’s working men and women are the backbone of our country and the foundation of our strength.  We must always remember that America’s middle class has a union label on it, benefiting hard-working families across the country and around the world.

“Today’s Supreme Court action shows that rescinding DACA was not only legally questionable, but also unjust and cruel.  The court’s action is welcome news, but only Congress can provide the permanent protection our Dreamers need and deserve.

“Today, the Trump Administration sealed its special interest betrayal of the promise of a free and open Internet.  Consumers will now be hit with higher costs and less choice, while America’s dynamism and entrepreneurship will come under attack.  In their haste to hand massive giveaways to big corporate Internet access providers, Republicans have pushed forward an anti-consumer, anti-competition agenda with devastating consequences for America’s small businesses, families and economy.
