Trump Heads to Florida: What to Know
As President Trump travels to Fort Myers, Florida to try to divide and distract the American People, House Democrats are keeping the focus on the facts – with the latest in a series of state-level reports outlining in stark detail how GOP-control of Washington has undermined the health and economic security of hard-working Florida families.
Trump’s TRICKS are on the people of Florida while the TREATS of the GOP agenda are lavished on the special interests, wealthy and well-connected.
The report exposes Republicans’ broken promises on the core economic issues at the heart of House Democrats’ For The People agenda: health costs and prescription drug prices; the GOP tax scam, stagnant real wages and unmet infrastructure needs.
- At an Orlando rally in ’16, Trump said that under Republican leadership, “we can replace Obamacare and save health care for every family in Florida.” He added that, “A Trump Administration will stop the jobs from leaving our country. We will start making things in America. We will be a rich nation once again.”
- More than 1.4 million Florida taxpayers will see NO tax benefit or will suffer a tax hike by 2019, while the wealthiest 1 percent of Floridians received a total of nearly $10.7 million;
- In the first 19 months of the Trump Administration, real average hourly wages in Florida remained essentially flat, increasing just 0.3 percent; and
- Republicans’ health care sabotage drove the average 2018 premium for the silver benchmark plan for a 40-year-old in the ACA Marketplace in Florida up by 41%, compared to 2017.
Even today, Trump continues to double down on his tricks, saying “Republicans will protect people with pre-existing conditions far better than the Dems!” But the reality is every Republican of the Florida delegation except Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen voted to gut the ACA’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions and impose what the AARP called an “age tax” on older Americans.
Democrats are For The People: lower health costs and prescription drug prices, raise workers’ wages with strong economic growth by rebuilding America, and clean up corruption to make Washington work for the American people.
