Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Ed Hill
Washington, D.C. – Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passing of labor leader Edwin D. Hill:
“America has lost a leader of great dignity and determination, an organizer who dedicated a lifetime to defending the rights and dignity of America’s workers: Ed Hill. He leaves an extraordinary legacy of progress on behalf of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, all working men and women, and the nation.
“Ed was driven by an inexhaustible passion for improving the lives of America’s workers. He believed that all Americans were worthy of respect, and deserving of the strongest protections of their rights in the workplace. Ed devoted his life to strengthening conditions for all workers, and rose to serve as a de facto ambassador not only of IBEW but of the entire labor movement. He knew that the American Middle Class has a union label on it, and that achieving better standards and pay for workers would lift up all families in America.
“Ed was also a pioneer, who was unafraid of pursuing new solutions to the challenges facing America’s working people in a rapidly changing world. He boldly led IBEW into the 21st century, introducing innovative ideas and initiatives for progress, while always providing a steady hand at the tiller. His leadership advanced great progress to make the lives of workers and organizers more secure, stable and successful.
“Ed’s many friends will remember him as a leader of great humility and honor, for whom improving the lives of America’s working families was not simply a job, but a lifelong mission. We will always be grateful for his leadership to forge a bright future for workers, and for his warm friendship. May it be a comfort to his loving wife Rosemary, their three children, and Ed’s many loved ones that so many mourn with and pray for them at this sad time.”
