House GOP Whip Doesn’t Want America To Know the Truth about TrumpCare’s Devastating Impact

Republicans have recently tried to hide a lot of things from the American people: their ACA repeal bill, President Trump’s tax returns, ties to Russia and the dysfunction consuming their Party – just to name a few.

And yesterday, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise added another item to the mix by refusing to disclose to the American people the brutal impact their TrumpCare bill would have on people’s health care.

Washington Examiner – Scalise: GOP won’t wait for new CBO score on health bill

Republicans are pushing forward on a vote next week on their bill to repeal Obamacare and won’t wait for a new estimate on the impact of major changes the legislation makes to Medicaid.

House Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., told reporters Friday that the House will not wait for a new score from the Congressional Budget Office before voting on the American Health Care Act.  The decision comes after a meeting between President Trump and 13 members of the Republican Study Committee that bore major changes to the bill.

The decision to not wait for an updated score comes after the CBO estimated Monday that the bill would result in 24 million people without insurance over the next decade. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., sent a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Wednesday saying that CBO should be given time to score any changed legislation.

The Hill – GOP whip won’t commit to new CBO score before vote

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) on Friday declined to commit to having a new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis of the ObamaCare replacement bill before a vote on Thursday.

“We’re working with CBO on all of these [changes], obviously CBO works a lot slower than we’d like, but that’s OK, that’s their method,” Scalise said. “But we’re moving forward with our bill…”

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) this week called on Republican leaders to wait until a CBO analysis is released until voting on the bill. “The American people and Members have a right to see an updated CBO score on the consequences of the final legislation before any vote by the House,” she wrote.

Whip Scalise’s refusal speaks volumes.  As Leader Pelosi said:

House Republicans’ contempt for transparency matches their contempt for the working families who will be devastated by Trumpcare.  But Republicans are deluding themselves if they think they can hide from the millions of Americans whose lives would be destroyed by their bill.
