Pelosi Statement on Conversation with OMB Director Mulvaney

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after her conversation yesterday evening with OMB Director Mick Mulvaney:

“Instead of working with Democrats to avert another disastrous Republican Government Shutdown, the Trump Administration is cruelly threatening to raise health premiums on millions of families.  Millions of Americans would see their out-of-pocket costs skyrocket and premiums would immediately be driven up by at least 15 percent.

“Congressman Mick Mulvaney was a chief architect of the government shutdown in 2013.  He not only voted to shut down government but voted against ending the shutdown.  He also voted to default on the full faith and credit of the United States.

“Our country would be damaged by another Republican Government Shutdown, and given that Republicans hold the White House and have majorities in both the House and Senate, it is their responsibility to avert such a crisis.  Our appropriators have been working in a bipartisan manner to present legislation that will keep government open, and I continue to encourage these efforts.”
