Pelosi Statement Following House Briefing by the Deputy Attorney General
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following a bipartisan House briefing by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. On Monday, Pelosi wrote to Speaker Ryan asking for the Deputy Attorney General to brief all House Members on his knowledge of and his role in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
“My observations of the public and private comments of the Deputy Attorney General show the urgent need for a completely independent, outside commission to get the facts for the American people.
“We trust that both the Justice Department and the Congressional investigation will honor their responsibility to follow the facts. However, in addition to the investigations inside the Trump Justice Department and the Republican Congress, there must be an independent, outside commission to investigate as well.
“Already, 191 Members have signed the bipartisan discharge petition to force a vote to create an independent, outside commission to get the truth for the American people. If the President has nothing to hide, then he and the Republicans in Congress should welcome independent investigations to remove all doubt of a cover-up.”
