The Big Reveal: Senate Trumpcare Bill Just as ‘Mean’ as House Bill
After weeks of writing Trumpcare behind closed doors, Senate Republicans finally unveiled their version today. Despite their efforts to spin it otherwise, the Senate GOP version of Trumpcare is just as devastating, ‘mean’ and heartless as the House bill. And it makes sense why Senators are trying to distance themselves from it:
A new NBC/WSJ poll found that only 16% of Americans believe that Trumpcare “is a good idea.”
We’re with you. The Senate bill, just like its House counterpart, means higher health costs, tens of millions of hard-working Americans losing health coverage, gutting key protections, a crushing age tax, and stealing from Medicare. Same as the House, Senate Republicans would inflict this heartless bill on seniors and working people just to hand hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to big corporations and the wealthy.
Don’t be mistaken – the Senate version is just as ‘mean’ as the cruel bill passed by the House. But don’t take it from us –
Senate GOP version of Trumpcare “tracks in many ways along the lines of the health care bill.” – Speaker Ryan
“The Senate reportedly is following the same harmful path, and aims to vote on its bill next week.” – USA TODAY
“The bill largely mirrors the House measure that narrowly passed last month.” – Washington Post
“The Senate bill, like the House bill, would ban funding for Planned Parenthood for one year.” – Bloomberg
“The bottom line is, it’s not going to be a totally different than the House passed. It’s going to be mostly the same structure, with changes at the margins.” – Axios
“Like the House bill, the Senate measure is expected to make big changes to Medicaid.” – Washington Post
“Under the Senate bill, cuts to future Medicaid spending would be even deeper than under the House bill.” – Margot Sanger-Katz (New York Times)
“The details of the Senate’s ‘healthcare’ bill are out. It’s as bad as the House bill, only worse for Medicaid.” – JoyAnn Reid
“Basic shape of Senate Trumpcare is the same as the House.” – Sahil Kapur (Bloomberg)
“Word is bill submitted to CBO is actually more severe than the House bill. Same House bill Trump described as mean.” – Andy Slavitt (Former Director of CMS)
“The basic ingredients for House and Senate were always going to be the same: huge tax cuts for the rich paid for by benefit cuts to the poor.” – Chris Hayes
The Senate version of Trumpcare is nothing more than a ‘modification’ of the terrible GOP House version. It’s the same brutal, heartless attack on the lives of seniors and hard-working American families, stripping millions of Americans of affordable health coverage.
