Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Lifting Injunctions Against Muslim & Refugee Ban

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Supreme Court agreed to review President Trump’s Muslim and refugee ban, and lifted large parts of the injunctions against the ban’s implementation, pending their ruling:

“The blatant discrimination of the Muslim and refugee ban is both unjust and dangerous, handing terrorists a powerful recruiting tool.  The Trump Administration has consistently shown that discrimination, not national security is the purpose of this ban.

“The Supreme Court’s move to largely lift the injunctions against the open prejudice of the Muslim and refugee ban sends the wrong message to our partners on the front lines of the fight against terror.  We hope that the Court will ultimately come to the only conclusion consistent with our values, our national defense and the Constitution.

“Protecting the American people requires us to be strong and smart, not reckless and rash. President Trump claims he is strengthening our security, but the brazen prejudice of his Muslim and refugee ban is making America less safe, not more.”
