Pelosi Statement on Nomination of Christopher Wray for FBI Director

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after President Trump nominated former Assistant Attorney General Christopher Wray to replace James Comey as the next FBI Director:

“Every day, Americans learn more about President Trump’s brazen attempts to interfere with the investigations into his potential collusion with Russia.  From reports that the President asked his top intelligence officials to curtail the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe to his firing of Director James Comey, Trump is making it clear that he will stop at nothing to prevent the FBI – and Americans – from following the facts on his Moscow connection.

“It is imperative that the next FBI Director be of unimpeachable integrity and independence.  In light of the President’s constant efforts to block the truth, the nomination of Christopher Wray should be subject to the utmost scrutiny.

“Tomorrow, former Director James Comey will testify before Congress.  Republicans must decide whether they will continue to do President Trump’s bidding, or whether they value their oath to the Constitution and will conduct the rigorous oversight of the White House that the country deserves.  The American people demand answers, and Democrats will keep fighting to uncover the full truth and ensure the integrity of our democracy.”
