Editorial Boards: Latest Trumpcare Bill is the Worst One Yet
Senate Republicans are planning to bring their latest version of Trumpcare (Graham-Cassidy bill) to the floor for a vote next week – putting millions of American families at risk of losing access to affordable health care. With shattering consequences of higher health costs for less coverage, gutting key protections, a crushing age tax, and stealing from Medicaid, hard-working people will suffer just so Republicans can hand massive tax breaks to the rich and corporations.
Editorial boards across the country continue to be vocal in their criticism of this sham proposal to gut health care for Americans in every state.
(DC) Washington Post: Another execrable health-care bill proves bad ideas never die – The process by which Republicans would pass it would be as sloppy and partisan as the one to which senators such as John McCain (R-Ariz.) objected earlier in the summer. The outcome would be no less destructive.
(IN) Tribune Star: Here we go again on health care – The GOP lust to reverse the dramatic progress brought on by Obamacare is apparently insatiable.
(MD) Carroll County Times: Irresponsible to pass Graham-Cassidy ACA repeal bill – [Graham-Cassidy] isn’t much better than previous proposals that were ultimately rejected this summer and, in some ways, might actually be worse.
(LA) The Times-Picayune: Louisiana would lose out under Cassidy health care plan – Tens of thousands of Louisianians would lose the health care coverage they have gained under President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
(CO) Daily Camera: The latest Republican threat to Obamacare – It’s sick that a president would engineer the destruction of a program that provides health insurance to millions of Americans who didn’t have it before it existed. Even sicker is Congress’ inability, after all this time and debate, to find common ground on an issue so crucial to their constituents’ well-being.
(MD) Baltimore Sun: Repeal and replace redux – Their new proposal is, if anything, even more draconian than their previous attempts to strip millions of Americans of health insurance coverage.
(MO) St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Last-ditch Graham-Cassidy health care bill is the worst one yet – Under cover of a fog of news, Senate Republicans have been trying to round up enough votes for yet another bid to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The bill they have in mind is in many ways worse than any of the three bills that failed this summer.
The Affordable Care Act saves lives. Instead of jamming their latest version of Trumpcare through Congress, Republicans must join Democrats in finding bipartisan solutions to drive down health costs for America’s hard-working families.
