New Gallup POLL: Equal Pay Top Issue for Working Women!

You read the headline correctly.  Forty-two percent of working women cite equal pay as their top issue!  From Gallup:

Nearly four in 10 Americans say equal pay is the top issue facing working women in the United States today, a sentiment shared by roughly the same proportions of men, women, and working women.  About twice as many Americans mention equal pay as cite the second-ranked issue — equal opportunity for advancement.  No other issue is cited by more than 10% of Americans.

Americans clearly see norms of fairness and equality — in terms of pay and the opportunity to get ahead — as the greatest challenges for working women.

House Democrats understand the importance of this issue and have legislation to make equal pay for equal work the law of the land.  Yet, Republicans have voted SEVEN times to BLOCK the Paycheck Fairness Act!  Clearly, they remain out of touch.  In fact, a leading House Republican has even said that American women don’t care about equal pay:

Marsha Blackburn: Women ‘Don’t Want’ Equal Pay Laws

Republican congresswoman Marsha Blackburn said on Sunday that women “don’t want” equal pay laws.

Republicans should end their obstruction and join Democrats in jumpstarting the middle class by ensuring both women and men get equal pay for equal work!
