Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration finalized a rule to expand shoddy Association Health Plans that allow employers to skirt consumer protections and limit coverage for Americans with pre-existing conditions:

Washington, D.C.  – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement on a new state-by-state Center for American Progress report comparing the average tax benefit to working families to the health insurance premium increases, due to the Republican tax law’s provisions to sabotage the health insurance marketplaces:

“Americans’ health care will never be safe so long as the GOP has unchecked control of Washington.  Republicans will not stop trying to impose an age tax on older Americans’ health care, or stop attacking people with pre-existing conditions, or stop trying to obliterate Medicaid and Medicare.

San Diego – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined fellow House Democrats for a visit to immigration detention facilities in San Diego to witness the effects of the Trump Administration’s immigration and family separation policies. Below are the Leader’s remarks:

The Trump Administration continues their barbaric ‘zero-tolerance’ policy separating families at the border – literally ripping children out of the arms of their mothers and fathers – as they prosecute asylum seeking families at the border for illegal entry. 

In an attempt to defend their inhumanity, President Trump blamed others for his own policy, Attorney General Sessions quoted the Bible, and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen tried to claim it wasn’t happening at all…

“President Trump’s family separation policy leaves a dark stain on our nation.  Ripping vulnerable little children away from their parents is an utter atrocity that debases America’s values and our legacy as a beacon of hope, opportunity and freedom.

“The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was designed to protect consumers against the deceptive and abusive financial marketplace practices that, in 2008, resulted in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Under Mick Mulvaney, defending the financial security and dignity of America’s seniors, servicemembers and working families has taken a back seat to protecting special interests. The Trump Administration’s nominee to lead the Bureau has an opportunity to be a champion for consumers and not the financial industry. But her apparent lack of experience in consumer finance, coupled with the Administration’s hostility to consumer protection, raises questions about her qualifications to lead such an important agency.
