Leader Pelosi.  Here we are, Mr. Speaker, another day to take a deep breath.  As you know, our responsibility is to pass a budget that meets the needs of the American people.  Since September 30, which was the end of the fiscal year, we have not done that.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the 45th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision today:

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined House Democrats for a press conference to call on Republicans to protect our troops’ paychecks during the Trump Shutdown, and to reiterate Democrats’ call for a budget with strong national security funding for the full fiscal year, instead of continuing the uncertainty and wastefulness of Republicans’ serial continuing resolutions.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

Leader Pelosi.  Good morning everyone.  Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of women – and their friends, and men – poured into the streets to champion the values of the American people.  Hundreds of thousands of people here, hundreds of thousands of people in different cities across the country.  Tens of thousands throughout, in different venues. 

Today, the Democratic Women of the House called upon the President to come to the table to reach agreement for the American people.  At our press conference, we emphasized our support for our men and women in uniform and our responsibility to keep the American people safe.

When President Trump tweeted last May that our country needed a ‘good shutdown,’ OMB Director Mick Mulvaney wholeheartedly agreed. 

Leader Pelosi.  Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker.  Mr. Speaker, last night, on the eve of the first anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration, President Trump earned an ‘F’ for leadership.  President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ obsession with passing a tax scam to benefit the wealthiest in our country and corporations has blinded them to their responsibilities to the American people.
