Pelosi Remarks at Press Availability with Israel Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu
Washington, D.C – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Leaders held a brief press availability this afternoon with Israel Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu following his address to a Joint Meeting of Congress. Below are Leader Pelosi’s remarks:
Leader Pelosi. Mr. Prime Minister, it’s an honor to join my colleagues in the leadership of the Congress to welcome you once again to the Capitol of the United States.
As you know, just two weeks ago, we had a bipartisan delegation visit you in Israel, where we shared the experience of the Day of Remembrance and then bursting forth the celebration for the establishment of the nation of — of Israel.
Two weeks ago — one week ago here in the Capitol, under the dome, we had the Day of Remembrance for — of the Holocaust. The prime minister very eloquently tied all of these things together, speaking about the importance of the Jewish state in the Middle East.
Mr. Prime Minister, I think that it was clear from the response to your speech that our colleagues on both sides of the aisle, from both sides of the Capitol, believe that you advance the cause of speech — of peace, with your presentation.
Prime Minister Netanyahu: Maybe of speech, too. Who knows?
[Laughter.]
Leader Pelosi. Both sides of the aisle, both sides of the Capitol believe that you advance the cause of peace…
Prime Minister Netanyahu: Thank you.
Leader Pelosi. …with your great speech to the Congress. Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister.
