Pelosi Statement on Black History Month

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of National African American History Month, which begins today.

“Throughout February we celebrate the contributions of African Americans to our shared story as we work together to strengthen our communities and enrich our democracy.  African American history illustrates the resilience, courage, and creativity of the American people in our continued fight for equality.

“As we mark fifty years since African Americans marched in Selma and organized efforts to help pass the Voting Rights Act, we honor their legacy by ensuring their hard-won victories endure for future generations.  We recognize the African American story as an invaluable part of the American story.

“As we come together to write the next chapter, we must make certain that all Americans’ voices are heard and ensuring that they are engaged and empowered, we can help guarantee that all lives matter in our continued effort to fulfill the ideals of America.”
