Pelosi Statement Mourning Tragic Death of President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynski, Leaders of Poland
Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement mourning the tragic death of President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynski, and other leaders of Poland while traveling to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre:
“The United States and the entire world mourn the loss of President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynski, and all who perished in this tragic plane crash. The scope of the tragedy and loss is indescribable, and the thoughts and prayers of all of us in Congress rest with the people of Poland, and the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims.
“Throughout his life, President Kaczynski stood as a champion of progress, a defender of freedom, and an advocate of liberty for Poland’s families, workers, and citizens. As a leader in the Solidarity movement, he struggled to turn the tides of history against the tyranny and oppression of communist rule. And, together with so many who lost their lives in this tragedy, he sought to rebuild Poland and write a new chapter for the next generation.
“The United States Congress joins Poland and countries across the globe in mourning the death of such extraordinary leaders. Let us strive to live up to their legacy of hope and a brighter future for Poland, Europe, and all of humanity.”
