Pelosi Statement on Republicans’ Bill to Strip D.C.’s Budget Autonomy

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after House Republicans passed a bill by a vote of 240 to 179 to strip the District of Columbia’s budget autonomy:

“With this bill, the House GOP is trying to override the democratic will of 700,000 residents of the District of Columbia, and insert Republicans’ ceaseless dysfunction into the operations and finances of the District.

“Given that the Republican Congress has failed to pass a budget for the federal government because of its own recklessness and radicalism, Republicans should think twice about this deeply hypocritical effort to block D.C. budget autonomy.

“The residents of the District of Columbia deserve better than to have their budget held hostage by Republican obstruction.”
