This long overdue effort to mandate training is a critical first step in our efforts to address sexual harassment on Capitol Hill, but Congress must do more.  It is imperative that Congress pass further legislation to reform the Office of Compliance and the Congressional Accountability Act to put an end to the days of secret settlements paid for by taxpayer dollars.

“As Members of Congress, we each have a responsibility to uphold the integrity of the House of Representatives and to ensure a climate of dignity and respect, with zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination, bullying or abuse.  As I have said before, any credible allegation of sexual harassment must be investigated by the Ethics Committee.

Last week, California Republicans betrayed their constituents and their state to hand Speaker Ryan the votes for a bill designed to hit Californians with the largest net tax hikes of any state in the nation.  Instead of insisting on a bill that doesn’t raise taxes on their constituents, California Republicans voted to dismantle the state and local tax deduction relied on by tens of thousands of families in every one of their districts.
