Washington, D.C – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee moved to prevent consideration of Democrats’ amendment, offered by Congressman Brian Higgins, to cut off the corporate rate reduction if workers do not see an increase in their wages:

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Ranking Member on the House Ways and Means Committee Congressman Richard Neal and Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee Senator Ron Wyden to unveil a plan that would cut off the corporate rate reduction if companies fail to invest these tax savings directly into jobs and wages.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

Good morning, everyone.  We have some very special guests with us here today so I will be brief in my remarks so we can hear from them.  Yesterday, as you know, the Republicans unveiled a terrible assault on opportunity for the middle class in America.  The Republicans want you to believe they are cutting taxes on the middle class, but the Republicans are plundering the middle class and middle class families to give trillions of dollars in tax cuts to corporations – some shipping jobs overseas.
