Pelosi: ‘This is the Strongest Iran Sanctions Legislation Ever Passed by the Congress’

“Today with the passage of this legislation and when it goes to the President’s desk to be signed, we give the President new tools to: impose sanctions against companies that sell Iran technology, services, know-how, and materials for its energy and petroleum sector; and we offer foreign banks a choice – they can deal with institutions that support weapons of mass destruction and terrorist activities, or they can do business with the United States.”

Pelosi Remarks at Ceremony Recognizing Contributions of Enslaved African Americans in Construction of U.S. Capitol

“History books up until now had not reported their story, nor described the pivotal role they played in erecting the Capitol. That the tale will be written forever into these walls, etched into this structure, and spoken from this marble chamber. Today, it is enshrined in these plaques, which state: ‘This original exterior wall was constructed between 1793 and 1800 of sandstone, quarried by enslaved African Americans, who were an important part of the labor force that built the United States Capitol.'”

Pelosi Remarks at Reception with Women Business Owners

“I come here tonight to pay tribute to NAWBO’s 35 years of propelling women business owners toward success. Your efforts are essential to our economy, and indeed our entire nation. By 2018, women small business owners will create more than 5 million new jobs. In Congress, we must help give you the tools you need to succeed.”

Pelosi Floor Speech on American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act

“Mr. Speaker, it is our responsibility here, almost an ethical one really, to create jobs for the American people. Equally important is to reduce the deficit. So any of the pieces of legislation that we bring to the floor must strive to do both, to strike that balance. I congratulate the chairman on this important legislation because it does both–creates jobs and helps to reduce the deficit.”
