The emoluments clause of the Constitution requires that the President serve the good of the American people, not the corrupting promise of money from foreign governments. President Trump’s refusal to seek Congressional approval for – or even disclose – his vast international financial interests is a violation of the Constitution and a threat to the integrity of our democracy itself.

Today, House Democratic Leaders and Ranking Members sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and White House Counsel Don McGahn urging them reverse their policy that instructs federal agencies in the Trump Administration to ignore oversight requests from Members of Congress.

Thank you for being here, once again, I’m honored to be here with the Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee Richard Neal of Massachusetts, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, the author of the legislation we’re going to be talking about here, Congressman Bill Pascrell of New Jersey, who has been a relentless champion on getting the truth to the American people, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries of New York who this week was the maker of the Privileged Resolution to release the President’s tax returns, as well as working with other members of the House Democratic Caucus.
