Some of you were with us yesterday when Members of our leadership talked about Mr. Trump’s comments being a direct continuation or reflection of what Republicans in the House have been saying all along.

Speaker Ryan and his House Republican Conference say they’re shocked at presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s appalling policies and despicable rhetoric. Yet for years, Republicans in Congress have advanced the same kind of extremist, reprehensible language and discriminatory legislation.

“Good morning everyone. Thank you for being here. I know there’s a great deal of excitement on the Hill because of a visitor who’s coming tomorrow to meet with the Republican leadership. And some Republicans – including Members of their leadership – have said they cannot support the vile rhetoric and radical proposals of the Republican frontrunner.”

For months, House Republicans have refused to act on President Obama’s urgent request for an emergency supplemental to confront the growing threat of the Zika virus. There are more than 1,000 Americans – including more than 100 pregnant women – with confirmed cases of Zika, but House Republicans continue to dawdle in the face of this frightening threat.

On Sunday, we began a bipartisan Congressional visit to Mexico to strengthen our long-standing friendship and strong bilateral relationship, and to advance our mutual goals of regional stability and prosperity.

We come here as a bipartisan and large delegation to express our respect for the people of Mexico and the country of Mexico; to acknowledge our shared border and our shared values and to learn more about how we can work together for the bright future for not only our two countries but for our hemisphere.

So this is who’s here on a Friday morning. I guess you’re all worn out from taking your children to work yesterday. Wasn’t that glorious? Isn’t it beautiful to see the future right there before our eyes? It’s my favorite day. I wish every day could be Take Your Children to Work day. It was so great. It was a good day, too, because we had a very strong Democratic vote in support of the fiduciary rule, of Rule 2, protect and strengthen retirement security, and for the confidence of millions of Americans as they invest for their future, for their pensions, for their retirement. I don’t even know why the Republicans would put forth a measure to undo that. It had such broad support in the private sector.

“The Conflict of Interest Retirement Investment Rule – also known as the Fiduciary Rule. Hard-working Americans should be able to trust their financial advisor to protect their retirement future. But that’s not always been the case. Conflicted advice – well, I won’t go into it, let’s just talk on the positive side as to where we are.”

“More than a century ago, starting in 1915 and lasting nearly a decade, more than 1.5 million innocent Armenian children, women, and men were systematically slaughtered during the horrific genocide committed by leaders of the Ottoman Empire. Today, we remember the victims of this brutal, inhumane period of ethnic cleansing. We honor their memories by acknowledging the past.”

The House Republican Conference – under the former GOP Budget Chairman, Speaker Ryan – blew their budget deadline last Friday. Par for the course for House GOP, really, because they are failing to take action to confront crises facing American families across the country.
