Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference today in the Capitol Visitor Center.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration redacted and declassified a memo authored by House Intelligence Committee Democrats, after weeks of undue delay following the unanimous Committee vote to release the memo:

Thank you very much all, for your nice welcome.  It’s really kind of an emotional experience for me to be here because I knew George Davis before I was in Congress.  He was one of my dear friends for many, many years.  He was a man always with a vision to make the future better especially for the people in the neighborhood — to meet the needs of people and then spread that beyond.  And we like to say he was visionary, he was visionary with plan to bring strategy to get the job done.  So I know he’s looking down on us now and being so proud of Cathy [Davis] and the work that she has done.  She has brought that plan to fruition.  Thank you, Cathy for your courage and leadership!  Thank you, Cathy!

“The Special Counsel’s indictments make absolutely clear that the Russians perpetrated a strategic effort to undermine and influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election to support the campaign of Donald Trump, and are continuing to interfere with our elections.  As desperately as President Trump insists that the Special Counsel investigation is a ‘hoax’, these latest indictments build on multiple guilty pleas and indictments of several Trump campaign officials, demonstrating the gravity of the Trump-Russia scandal.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi offered a resolution on the House floor disapproving of Chairman Nunes’ irresponsible decision to release a deliberately altered, highly classified memo after it was voted on by the House Intelligence Committee.  The resolution also called for the release of House Intelligence Committee Democrats’ memo to set the record straight on House Republicans’ campaign to obstruct the Russia investigation.  After the Chair ruled the resolution was not privileged, the House voted 236 – 190 to appeal the ruling of the Chair.  

Leader Pelosi.  Thank you, Mr. Speaker.  I thank the gentleman for yielding and I thank him and Mr. [Gregg] Harper for leadership in bringing this legislation to the Floor. 

“A full week after voting to publicly release the dangerous, deliberately distorted Nunes memo, House Republicans have decided to pay lip-service to the public interest.

Over the weekend, Speaker Ryan bragged on Twitter about a high school secretary in Lancaster, Pennsylvania getting a raise of $1.50 per week as evidence that the #GOPTaxScam is working.  No, we are not joking.

Paul Ryan was so widely and swiftly ridiculed for this that he deleted the tweet.  But doing this can’t hide the fact that he seriously thinks that tiny raises for a hard-working Americans while corporations pocket billions shows success.

On the heels of the Super Bowl, it seems like a little Monday morning quarterbacking on the release of Nunes’ bogus memo is in order.
