Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, Ranking Member on the House Ways and Means Committee Congressman Richard Neal and Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee Senator Ron Wyden to unveil a plan that would cut off the corporate rate reduction if companies fail to invest these tax savings directly into jobs and wages.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

GOP Destroys Valuable Medical Deduction with Tax Scam

Under the Ryan-McConnell tax bill, not only are Republicans raising taxes on the middle class in order to hand massive tax cuts to the rich, they are destroying a key tax deduction for working families dealing with medical bills: the medical expense deduction, which helps families with children with disabilities, long-term care needs, a need for expensive fertility treatments that have very high medical costs.

Good morning, everyone.  We have some very special guests with us here today so I will be brief in my remarks so we can hear from them.  Yesterday, as you know, the Republicans unveiled a terrible assault on opportunity for the middle class in America.  The Republicans want you to believe they are cutting taxes on the middle class, but the Republicans are plundering the middle class and middle class families to give trillions of dollars in tax cuts to corporations – some shipping jobs overseas.

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), members of the LGBT Equality Caucus, other Congressional Members and supporting organizations at an announcement of an amicus brief in support of civil rights protections for historically marginalized groups. Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission focuses on whether a business can legally discriminate against customers based on sexual orientation, race, religion and ability, among others, by citing First Amendment protections for “sincerely” held religious beliefs.
