House Democrats Join A National Day of Action for Commonsense Gun Violence Prevention

Yesterday, House Democrats joined with families and gun violence prevention advocates across the country for a National Day of Action on Commonsense Gun Violence Prevention. In the wake of House Democrats’ historic sit-in on the Floor of the House, Americans from every walk of life came together to share their stories and send a message to the GOP Congress: House Republicans must end their reckless obstruction and join with Democrats to take action to disarm hate.

Guided by the moral, moral strength of [Congressman] John Lewis, our sit‑in on the Floor resonated around the world and focused the attention of the American people on the radical and reckless obstruction [of] bipartisan, very popular gun safety bills.

Pelosi Remarks at Press Event to Tell Speaker Ryan: No Bill, No Break

“Good afternoon, everyone. As we gather once again to speak out in favor of honoring our responsibility to protect and defend the American people, once again we’re fighting an uphill fight to have legislation brought to the Floor that would do just that. Right now, as we gather on the steps of the Capitol, there are many on the Floor from the House and Senate, sadly to say, just on the Democratic side – although I know our support for this legislation is bipartisan, legislation to ‘No Fly, No Buy’. If you’re on the terrorist list, you can’t buy a gun – and for sensible background checks. That’s a dual agenda that we have. That was the agenda that was spoken to by Senator Chris Murphy and other Senators on the Floor of the Senate earlier this week.”

Transcript of Pelosi Press Conference Today

It’s such a very sad time. Early in the morning on Sunday, we lost all of these people who we will carry in our hearts. So young, so young, representing the beautiful diversity of our country, and targeted. Victims of [a] hate crime. No question about that. Again, we stand with Orlando.

No Fly, No Buy – and No More Silence

While House Republicans respond to another horrific mass shooting with nothing but deafening silence and obstruction, House Democrats will continue to demand common sense action to save lives &honor the victims of gun violence.
